When Mum Couldn’t Leave the Room: A Two-Year-Old’s Story

Oct 07, 2026

She was two years old, bright, expressive and otherwise a healthy little girl. But there was one thing that dominated everyday family life: she could not bear to be separated from her mother.

This went far beyond simply preferring Mum.

She wanted to be on her mother’s lap almost constantly. If Mum stood up, she wanted to be carried. If Mum tried to cook, shower, speak to someone else or simply have a few minutes to herself, the little girl would become distressed.

There was screaming, whining and desperate clinging.

Dad was there. Other loving family members were there. But in those moments, none of them seemed to be acceptable substitutes.

For her mother, it was exhausting. She adored her daughter, but being needed every waking moment was taking its toll. Dad also found the situation difficult. He wanted to comfort his daughter and spend time with her, yet she repeatedly pushed him away in favour of Mum.

Gradually, the child's anxiety was beginning to shape the dynamics of the entire household.

One Detail From Her Birth Stood Out

When taking her history, an important detail emerged.

Her birth had been difficult. Immediately after delivery, she had been profoundly blue and had experienced oxygen deprivation. She recovered, and subsequently developed into an otherwise healthy child.

From a conventional medical perspective, a history of significant oxygen deprivation at birth is important and warrants appropriate pediatric assessment and follow-up. It should not be assumed to explain later emotional or behavioural symptoms without medical evaluation.

From a homeopathic perspective, however, the birth history also became part of the overall case picture.

Considering the history alongside the child's presentation, Oxygenium 1M was selected as the homeopathic prescription.

Then Something Began to Change

The change wasn't described as instantaneous.

Instead, over approximately the following week, the family noticed that something seemed different.

The little girl became gradually less demanding of her mother's constant physical presence. There were longer periods when Mum could get up without immediately triggering distress.

Then came an especially meaningful change: Dad became acceptable.

She began allowing him to comfort her. She could stay with him while Mum was elsewhere. Other family members were increasingly welcomed too.

The intense need to be carried and held by Mum diminished, and the separation anxiety appeared considerably less pronounced.

For the family, the difference felt enormous.

Mum finally had some breathing room. Dad could participate more fully in comforting and caring for his daughter. And the little girl appeared more secure moving between the people who loved her rather than depending exclusively on one person.

The atmosphere in the home changed with her.

A Small Change With a Big Effect on Family Life

Cases involving young children often remind us how closely connected a family's emotional dynamics can be. When one child is extremely distressed, everyone in the household can feel it.

In this case, the family reported a striking improvement during the week following the homeopathic prescription. Of course, a single case cannot establish that a remedy caused an improvement. Toddlers' behaviour can fluctuate considerably, separation anxiety is common in early childhood, and improvement may occur for many reasons.

For the family, however, the practical outcome was what mattered most: their little girl seemed more comfortable being apart from Mum, her relationships with Dad and other family members opened up, and everyday family life became much easier.
